Description

These homemade yeast rolls are incredibly soft, fluffy, and buttery. They’re perfect for dinner, sandwiches, or as a holiday side. Made with simple ingredients, these rolls have a light texture and a slight sweetness that makes them irresistible!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • :
  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra if needed)
  • For Brushing:
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

Instructions

  • :
  • Step 1: Activate the Yeast
  • In a large bowl, whisk together warm milk, yeast, and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  • Step 2: Make the Dough
  • Add the remaining sugar, melted butter, egg, and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir to combine.
  • Gradually mix in flour, 1 cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes (or in a stand mixer for 5 minutes) until smooth and elastic.
  • Step 3: First Rise
  • Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  • Step 4: Shape & Second Rise
  • Punch down the dough and divide it into 12-15 equal pieces. Shape into smooth balls and place in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Cover and let rise for 30-45 minutes until puffy.
  • Step 5: Bake & Serve
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Brush with melted butter while warm and serve!

Notes

  • :
  • Make ahead: Refrigerate the dough overnight after the first rise. Let it come to room temperature before shaping.
  • For extra softness, use bread flour instead of all-purpose flour.
  • Storage: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 2 days or freeze for 2 months.
