Description

Tres Leches Cake is a soft and fluffy sponge cake soaked in a sweet three-milk mixture, then topped with whipped cream. It’s rich, moist, and perfect for any celebration!

Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Cake:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 5 large eggs, separated
  • 1 cup granulated sugar, divided
  • 1/3 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Tres Leches Mixture:

  • 1 (12 oz) can evaporated milk
  • 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 3/4 cup whole milk (or heavy cream)

For the Whipped Topping:

  • 1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 3 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For Garnish (Optional):

  • Ground cinnamon
  • Fresh strawberries or berries

Instructions

Bake the Cake

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat egg yolks with ½ cup of sugar until pale and fluffy (about 2 minutes). Stir in milk and vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, beat egg whites until soft peaks form. Gradually add the remaining ½ cup of sugar and beat until stiff peaks form.
  5. Gently fold the egg whites into the yolk mixture. Then, fold in the flour mixture in batches until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the cake cool for 15 minutes.

2. Soak the Cake

  1. In a bowl, whisk together evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, and whole milk.
  2. Poke holes all over the cake using a fork or skewer. Slowly pour the milk mixture over the cake, letting it absorb evenly.
  3. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours (or overnight for best results).

3. Make the Whipped Topping

  1. In a large bowl, beat heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
  2. Spread the whipped cream evenly over the soaked cake.

4. Serve & Enjoy!

  1. Garnish with a sprinkle of cinnamon and fresh berries, if desired.
  2. Slice and serve chilled. Enjoy your delicious Tres Leches Cake!

Notes

  • For an extra rich cake, replace whole milk in the milk mixture with heavy cream.
  • Letting the cake soak overnight enhances the flavor and texture.

  • Serve with caramel drizzle or coconut flakes for a fun twist!
