Description
Crispy, golden, and perfectly seasoned, these air fryer French fries taste just like your favorite fast food fries but are much healthier! They require minimal oil and cook in under 20 minutes, making them a quick and easy side dish or snack.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large russet potatoes
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder (optional)
Instructions
- Prep the potatoes: Wash and peel (or leave the skin on) the potatoes. Cut them into thin, even strips about ¼-inch thick.
- Soak the fries: Place the cut potatoes in a bowl of cold water for at least 30 minutes (or up to 2 hours) to remove excess starch. This helps them crisp up better.
- Dry thoroughly: Drain and pat the fries completely dry with a paper towel.
- Season the fries: In a large bowl, toss the fries with olive oil, salt, pepper, and any additional seasonings.
- Preheat the air fryer: Set the air fryer to 380°F (193°C) and let it warm up for a few minutes.
- Cook in batches: Arrange the fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Avoid overcrowding to ensure even cooking.
- Air fry: Cook for 15-18 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
- Serve immediately: Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces!
Notes
- Best potatoes: Russet potatoes give the crispiest results, but Yukon Gold potatoes work well too.
- Extra crispy tip: After soaking, dry the potatoes thoroughly and lightly coat them with cornstarch before adding oil.
- Reheating: To reheat leftovers, air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 3-5 minutes until crispy again.
- Oil substitute: You can use avocado oil or spray oil instead of olive oil.
