Description

Sugared cranberries are sweet, tart, and sparkly treats that make a beautiful garnish for holiday desserts, festive cocktails, or as a simple snack. With just two ingredients, they’re easy to make and add a pop of color and crunch to any dish.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 cups fresh cranberries, rinsed and dried
  • 1 cup granulated sugar, divided
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine 1/2 cup of the sugar and 1/2 cup water. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is fully dissolved to create a simple syrup. Do not boil.
  2. Remove the saucepan from heat and let the syrup cool slightly for about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the cranberries to the syrup, stirring gently to coat them evenly.
  4. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the cranberries to a wire rack set over a baking sheet. Let them dry for about 1 hour until they are tacky but not wet.
  5. Place the remaining 1/2 cup sugar in a shallow bowl. Roll the tacky cranberries in the sugar until well coated.
  6. Let the sugared cranberries dry completely at room temperature for another hour.
  7. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.

Notes

  • Flavor Twist: Add a splash of orange or lemon juice to the simple syrup for a citrusy note.
  • Sparkling Touch: Use superfine sugar for an extra sparkly finish.
  • Make Ahead: Best enjoyed within 1-2 days as the sugar coating may dissolve over time.
