Scale
- 2 cups fresh cranberries, rinsed and dried
- 1 cup granulated sugar, divided
- 1/2 cup water
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine 1/2 cup of the sugar and 1/2 cup water. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is fully dissolved to create a simple syrup. Do not boil.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and let the syrup cool slightly for about 5 minutes.
- Add the cranberries to the syrup, stirring gently to coat them evenly.
- Using a slotted spoon, transfer the cranberries to a wire rack set over a baking sheet. Let them dry for about 1 hour until they are tacky but not wet.
- Place the remaining 1/2 cup sugar in a shallow bowl. Roll the tacky cranberries in the sugar until well coated.
- Let the sugared cranberries dry completely at room temperature for another hour.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
Notes
- Flavor Twist: Add a splash of orange or lemon juice to the simple syrup for a citrusy note.
- Sparkling Touch: Use superfine sugar for an extra sparkly finish.
- Make Ahead: Best enjoyed within 1-2 days as the sugar coating may dissolve over time.
