Description

This Stick of Butter Rice is a simple, buttery, and flavorful side dish made with just a few pantry staples! Baked to perfection, this rich and savory rice pairs well with chicken, steak, or any main dish. It’s a comforting, no-fuss recipe that’s perfect for busy nights.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice (uncooked)
  • 1 (10.5 oz) can beef consommé (or beef broth)
  • 1 (10.5 oz) can French onion soup
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, sliced
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (if needed)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven: Set to 350°F (175°C).
  • Combine ingredients: In a 9×9-inch or 9×13-inch baking dish, mix the uncooked rice, beef consommé, and French onion soup. Stir in garlic powder and black pepper if using.
  • Add butter: Place the butter slices evenly on top of the rice mixture.
  • Bake uncovered: Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the rice is tender and has absorbed the liquid.

  • Fluff & serve: Stir gently and serve warm!

Notes

  • Use brown rice? Increase the baking time to about 75-80 minutes and check for doneness.
  • Want it extra flavorful? Add ½ cup sliced mushrooms or a dash of Worcestershire sauce.
  • Make it a meal! Stir in shredded chicken or browned ground beef before baking.

  • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. Reheat with a splash of broth to keep it moist.
