Description

This spiked honey glaze is the perfect blend of sweet, smoky, and boozy goodness for a holiday ham. Made with honey, brown sugar, and a splash of whiskey (or rum), it caramelizes beautifully in the oven, creating a sticky, flavorful crust. Whether you’re making a classic baked ham or just want a bold glaze, this recipe is a must-try!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup whiskey (or dark rum)
  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika (optional)
  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  • Combine Ingredients: In a small saucepan over medium heat, mix honey, brown sugar, whiskey, Dijon mustard, and apple cider vinegar. Stir well.
  • Simmer & Thicken: Add cinnamon, cloves, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened.
  • Glaze the Ham: Brush half of the glaze over your pre-cooked ham before placing it in the oven.
  • Bake & Baste: Bake the ham at 325°F (165°C), brushing with the remaining glaze every 20 minutes, until caramelized and sticky (about 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on ham size).

  • Serve: Let the ham rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Enjoy!

Notes

  • If you prefer a non-alcoholic version, substitute the whiskey with apple juice or orange juice.
  • For extra caramelization, broil the ham for 2-3 minutes at the end.
  • Leftover glaze can be used as a dipping sauce—just simmer it for a few extra minutes to thicken.
