Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Dough:

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour

For Boiling:

  • 9 cups water
  • 1/2 cup baking soda

For Topping:

  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Coarse sea salt, for sprinkling

Instructions

1️⃣ Make the Dough:

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  • Stir in salt and sugar. Gradually add flour, mixing until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.

2️⃣ Let the Dough Rest:

  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rest for 10 minutes.

3️⃣ Shape the Pretzel Bites:

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (218°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Divide the dough into 6 sections. Roll each section into a long rope, about ½-inch thick.
  • Cut each rope into 1-inch pieces.

4️⃣ Boil the Pretzel Bites:

  • In a large pot, bring 9 cups of water to a boil. Stir in baking soda.
  • Drop the pretzel bites into the boiling water in batches, cooking for 20–30 seconds.
  • Remove with a slotted spoon and place on the prepared baking sheet.

5️⃣ Bake the Pretzel Bites:

  • Brush each pretzel bite with the beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse salt.
  • Bake for 12–15 minutes or until golden brown.

6️⃣ Serve & Enjoy:

  • Let cool slightly, then serve warm with your favorite dipping sauces!

Notes

  • For extra flavor, brush the pretzels with melted butter right after baking.
  • Want a cinnamon-sugar version? Skip the salt, then brush with butter and roll in cinnamon sugar after baking.
  • Storage Tip: Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze for longer storage.
