Ingredients

Units Scale
  • For the Steak Marinade:
  • 1 lb flank steak (or skirt steak)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp lime juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • For the Shrimp Marinade:
  • 1/2 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp lime juice
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • For the Tacos:
  • 8 small corn or flour tortillas
  • 1/2 cup red cabbage, shredded
  • 1/2 cup cotija cheese (or feta)
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 jalapeño, thinly sliced (optional)
  • Lime wedges, for serving
  • For the Sauce (Optional):
  • 1/2 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • 1 tbsp lime juice
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp hot sauce (optional)

Instructions

  • Marinate the steak: In a bowl or ziplock bag, mix olive oil, lime juice, garlic, and seasonings. Add the steak, coat well, and marinate for at least 30 minutes (or up to 4 hours for more flavor).
  • Marinate the shrimp: In a separate bowl, mix the shrimp marinade ingredients. Toss in the shrimp and let sit for 15–20 minutes.
  • Cook the steak: Heat a grill or pan over medium-high heat. Cook the steak for 4–5 minutes per side (or until desired doneness). Let it rest for 5 minutes, then slice thinly against the grain.
  • Cook the shrimp: In the same pan or grill, cook shrimp for 2–3 minutes per side until pink and opaque.
  • Prepare the sauce (optional): Mix sour cream, lime juice, garlic powder, and hot sauce in a small bowl.
  • Assemble the tacos: Warm the tortillas on a dry pan or grill. Fill each with sliced steak, shrimp, cabbage, cheese, avocado, and cilantro. Drizzle with the sauce and add jalapeños if using.
  • Serve and enjoy! Squeeze fresh lime juice over the tacos and dig in.

Notes

  • Don’t overcook the steak—medium-rare to medium is best for tenderness.
  • Use fresh shrimp for the best flavor. If using frozen, thaw them first.
  • Want it spicy? Add more chili powder or top with hot sauce.
  • Grilling option: Cook the steak and shrimp on an outdoor grill for a smoky flavor.
