Description

This Saltine Cracker Toffee is the perfect combination of buttery toffee, crisp saltine crackers, and a smooth chocolate topping. It’s ridiculously easy to make with just a few ingredients and is great for gifting, snacking, or serving at holiday gatherings. You won’t be able to stop at just one piece!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 40 saltine crackers (about 1 sleeve)
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 2 cups chocolate chips (semi-sweet, dark, or milk chocolate)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional, for extra flavor)
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt (optional, for garnish)

Optional Toppings:

  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (pecans, almonds, or walnuts)
  • 1/4 cup crushed candy canes (for a peppermint twist)
  • 1/4 cup toffee bits
  • Sprinkles (for a festive look)

Instructions

Prep the Baking Sheet:

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Line a 9×13-inch baking sheet with parchment paper or foil and lightly grease it.
  3. Arrange saltine crackers in a single layer, covering the entire sheet.

2. Make the Toffee:

  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and brown sugar, stirring continuously.
  2. Once melted, bring to a boil and let cook for 3-4 minutes until thickened, stirring frequently.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract (if using).

3. Bake & Melt the Chocolate:

  1. Pour the hot toffee mixture evenly over the saltines, spreading with a spatula.
  2. Bake for 5 minutes until bubbling.
  3. Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips over the top. Let sit for 2-3 minutes, then spread melted chocolate evenly.

4. Add Toppings & Chill:

  1. Sprinkle with sea salt, nuts, crushed candy canes, or toffee bits while the chocolate is still warm.
  2. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until fully set.

5. Break & Serve:

  • Once firm, break into pieces and enjoy!

Notes

Storage: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 1 week or in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

Make-Ahead: This toffee freezes well! Store in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Cracker Swap: Try graham crackers or Ritz crackers for a slightly different flavor.

Extra Crunch: Add a layer of chopped pretzels on top for extra texture.
