For the Donuts:
- 1 1/4 cups (160g) all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup (50g) brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup (120ml) buttermilk
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup (60ml) vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) red food coloring
For the Cream Cheese Glaze:
- 4 oz (113g) cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
Make the Donuts:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a donut pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk, egg, oil, vanilla extract, vinegar, and red food coloring.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
- Spoon or pipe the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each mold about ¾ full.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Let the donuts cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Make the Cream Cheese Glaze:
- In a bowl, beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Dip the tops of the cooled donuts into the glaze or drizzle over them.
- Let the glaze set before serving.
Notes
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 1-2 days or refrigerate for up to 5 days.
- For a deeper chocolate flavor, add an extra ½ tablespoon cocoa powder.
- If you don’t have buttermilk, substitute with ½ cup milk + ½ tablespoon vinegar or lemon juice.
