Ingredients

For the Donuts:

  • 1 1/4 cups (160g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup (50g) brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) red food coloring

For the Cream Cheese Glaze:

  • 4 oz (113g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Make the Donuts:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a donut pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk, egg, oil, vanilla extract, vinegar, and red food coloring.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  5. Spoon or pipe the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each mold about ¾ full.
  6. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Let the donuts cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Make the Cream Cheese Glaze:

  1. In a bowl, beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  2. Dip the tops of the cooled donuts into the glaze or drizzle over them.
  3. Let the glaze set before serving.

Notes

  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 1-2 days or refrigerate for up to 5 days.
  • For a deeper chocolate flavor, add an extra ½ tablespoon cocoa powder.
  • If you don’t have buttermilk, substitute with ½ cup milk + ½ tablespoon vinegar or lemon juice.
