For the Cookies:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips (optional)

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Make the Cookies:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix dry ingredients – In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Cream butter & sugars – In a large bowl, beat butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fluffy.
  4. Add wet ingredients – Mix in egg, milk, vanilla, food coloring, and vinegar until well combined.
  5. Combine – Gradually mix in dry ingredients. Fold in white chocolate chips, if using.
  6. Scoop & bake – Drop tablespoon-sized dough balls onto the baking sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until the edges are set. Let cool completely.

Make the Frosting:

  1. Beat cream cheese & butter until smooth.
  2. Add powdered sugar & vanilla – Mix until creamy.
  3. Frost the cookies – Spread or pipe frosting onto each cooled cookie.

Notes

  • For extra chewy cookies, chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking.
  • Use gel food coloring for a deeper red color.
  • Add crushed pecans or sprinkles on top for decoration.
  • Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
