Scale
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1 cup warm water (110°F/43°C)
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
Instructions
- Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir to dissolve and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, or until the mixture becomes foamy.
- Make the Dough: In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg to the flour. Stir until combined, and then knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with a damp cloth. Let it rise in a warm place for about 20-30 minutes, or until it doubles in size.
- Shape the Rolls: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 12 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and place them in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Second Rise: Cover the dish with a cloth and let the rolls rise for an additional 15-20 minutes while you preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake: Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
- Serve: Remove from the oven and brush with melted butter for a shiny, flavorful finish. Serve warm!
Notes
- For a richer flavor, you can substitute milk for some or all of the water.
- If you don’t have time to let the dough rise, you can bake the rolls right after shaping them (they won’t be as fluffy but will still be tasty).
- These rolls can be stored at room temperature for up to 2 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
