Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 small green bell pepper, diced
- 1 cup mushrooms, diced (optional)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 teaspoon mustard
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
- 4 slices provolone cheese (or more, as needed)
- 4 hamburger buns, toasted
- 1 tablespoon butter (for buns)
Instructions
- Cook the Beef – In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess grease if needed.
- Sauté the Veggies – Add diced onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms to the pan. Cook for 3–4 minutes until softened. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute.
- Season & Simmer – Stir in Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, ketchup, and mustard. Pour in the beef broth and bring to a simmer. Let it cook for 5 minutes to blend flavors.
- Thicken the Mixture (Optional) – If needed, mix cornstarch with a little water and stir it into the pan to thicken the sauce.
- Add Cheese – Lay the provolone slices over the beef mixture. Cover the pan for 1–2 minutes until the cheese melts. Stir gently to combine.
- Toast the Buns – Spread butter on each bun and toast in a separate skillet until golden brown.
- Assemble & Serve – Spoon the cheesy beef mixture onto toasted buns and serve hot!
Notes
- Substitute provolone with American or mozzarella cheese for a different twist.
- For extra richness, add a splash of heavy cream before melting the cheese.
- Serve with fries, chips, or a simple side salad.
