Units
Scale
- 12 oz dark chocolate (semi-sweet or bittersweet), chopped or chips
- 12 oz white chocolate, chopped or chips
- 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract (optional, for extra minty flavor)
- 1/2 cup crushed candy canes or peppermint candies
Instructions
- Prepare a Baking Sheet: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
- Melt the Dark Chocolate:
- Place the dark chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth and melted.
- Stir in the peppermint extract if using.
- Layer the Dark Chocolate:
- Pour the melted dark chocolate onto the prepared baking sheet. Spread it evenly with a spatula to about 1/4-inch thickness.
- Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for 15–20 minutes to set.
- Melt the White Chocolate:
- In a separate bowl, melt the white chocolate using the same method (microwave in intervals, stirring until smooth).
- Add the White Chocolate Layer:
- Once the dark chocolate is set, pour the melted white chocolate over it. Gently spread it evenly with a spatula.
- Add the Crushed Candy Canes:
- Immediately sprinkle the crushed candy canes evenly over the white chocolate layer, pressing them down lightly so they stick.
- Chill and Set:
- Refrigerate the bark for about 30 minutes, or until completely firm.
- Break into Pieces:
- Once set, remove from the fridge and break into irregular pieces by hand or with a sharp knife.
- Store:
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks, or refrigerate for longer freshness.
Notes
- For Smoother Bark: Temper the chocolate if you want a glossy finish and a snappier texture.
- Flavor Variations: Use milk chocolate instead of dark, or swirl the dark and white chocolate together for a marbled effect.
- Peppermint-Free Option: Skip the peppermint extract and candy canes for a simple chocolate bark.
