Description

Peppermint Bark is a festive, no-bake holiday treat made with layers of rich dark and creamy white chocolate, topped with crunchy crushed candy canes. It’s easy to make, perfect for gift-giving, and adds a delightful peppermint crunch to your holiday dessert spread.

Ingredients

Units Scale

  • 12 oz dark chocolate (semi-sweet or bittersweet), chopped or chips
  • 12 oz white chocolate, chopped or chips
  • 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract (optional, for extra minty flavor)
  • 1/2 cup crushed candy canes or peppermint candies

Instructions

  • Prepare a Baking Sheet: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  • Melt the Dark Chocolate:
    • Place the dark chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth and melted.
    • Stir in the peppermint extract if using.
  • Layer the Dark Chocolate:
    • Pour the melted dark chocolate onto the prepared baking sheet. Spread it evenly with a spatula to about 1/4-inch thickness.
    • Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for 15–20 minutes to set.
  • Melt the White Chocolate:
    • In a separate bowl, melt the white chocolate using the same method (microwave in intervals, stirring until smooth).
  • Add the White Chocolate Layer:
    • Once the dark chocolate is set, pour the melted white chocolate over it. Gently spread it evenly with a spatula.
  • Add the Crushed Candy Canes:
    • Immediately sprinkle the crushed candy canes evenly over the white chocolate layer, pressing them down lightly so they stick.
  • Chill and Set:
    • Refrigerate the bark for about 30 minutes, or until completely firm.
  • Break into Pieces:
    • Once set, remove from the fridge and break into irregular pieces by hand or with a sharp knife.
  • Store:
    • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks, or refrigerate for longer freshness.

Notes

  • For Smoother Bark: Temper the chocolate if you want a glossy finish and a snappier texture.
  • Flavor Variations: Use milk chocolate instead of dark, or swirl the dark and white chocolate together for a marbled effect.
  • Peppermint-Free Option: Skip the peppermint extract and candy canes for a simple chocolate bark.
