Scale
- 12 Hawaiian sweet rolls (or slider buns)
- 6 slices deli ham
- 6 slices deli turkey
- 6 slices Swiss cheese
- 4 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional, for classic Monte Cristo flavor)
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (for garnish)
- Raspberry or strawberry jam (for serving)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Set to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Assemble the Sliders: Slice the Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally, keeping them connected. Place the bottom half in the baking dish. Layer with half the cheese, all the ham and turkey, and then the remaining cheese. Top with the other half of the rolls.
- Make the Egg Mixture: In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, melted butter, Dijon mustard, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and nutmeg (if using).
- Coat the Sliders: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the sliders, letting it soak into the bread.
- Bake: Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 5–10 minutes, until golden brown and cooked through.
- Garnish and Serve: Let cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar. Serve with jam for dipping.
Notes
- Use provolone or cheddar instead of Swiss for a different flavor.
- For extra crispiness, broil for 2 minutes after baking.
- Store leftovers in the fridge for up to two days; reheat in the oven for best results.
