- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional, but enhances cherry flavor)
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup maraschino cherries, drained, patted dry, and chopped
- 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat & Prep: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, vanilla extract, and almond extract, mixing until smooth.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Make the Dough: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Fold in Add-ins: Gently fold in the chopped maraschino cherries and chocolate chips. Be careful not to overmix.
- Scoop & Bake: Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.
- Cool & Enjoy: Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- Draining the Cherries: Make sure to thoroughly pat the maraschino cherries dry before adding them to the dough. Excess moisture can affect the cookie texture.
- Chocolate Choices: Feel free to use dark or white chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet for a different flavor twist.
- Storage: Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
