Description

These Maple Pecan Sticky Buns are soft, fluffy, and loaded with caramelized pecans and a buttery maple glaze. Made with a simple homemade dough (or store-bought dough for a shortcut), these sticky buns are perfect for holiday mornings or weekend treats!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • For the Dough:
  • 3/4 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • For the Maple Pecan Topping:
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • For the Cinnamon Filling:
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon

Instructions

  • Make the Dough:
  • In a small bowl, whisk warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  • Add melted butter, egg, and salt. Stir to combine.
  • Gradually mix in the flour, kneading for 5-7 minutes until a smooth dough forms.
  • Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  • Make the Maple Pecan Topping:
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter, brown sugar, and maple syrup.
  • Stir in salt and vanilla extract. Let cook for 2 minutes, then pour into a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Sprinkle chopped pecans evenly over the glaze.
  • Assemble the Sticky Buns:
  • Roll out the dough into a 12×16-inch rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
  • Spread softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon.
  • Roll the dough tightly from the long side, then cut into 12 equal rolls.
  • Place rolls cut-side down in the prepared baking dish over the pecan topping. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
  • Bake & Serve:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  • Let cool for 5 minutes, then invert the pan onto a serving platter to let the sticky glaze coat the buns.

Notes

  • Shortcut Option: Use store-bought pizza or crescent roll dough for a faster version.
  • Extra Flavor: Add a pinch of nutmeg or drizzle extra maple syrup before serving.
  • Make-Ahead: Assemble the night before, refrigerate, and bake in the morning!
