Description

These Jalapeño Popper Wontons are the perfect bite-sized appetizer – crispy wonton wrappers filled with a creamy, cheesy, and spicy jalapeño mixture. They’re quick to make and even quicker to disappear at any party or gathering!

Ingredients

  • 24 wonton wrappers

  • 1 (8 oz) block cream cheese, softened

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

  • 2-3 fresh jalapeños, finely diced (seeds removed for less heat)

  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 4 slices cooked bacon, crumbled (optional but delicious)

  • 1 egg, beaten (for sealing edges)

  • Oil spray or neutral oil (for frying or air frying)

Instructions

  • Mix the Filling:
In a medium bowl, combine cream cheese, cheddar cheese, diced jalapeños, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and bacon (if using). Mix until smooth and well combined.

  • Assemble Wontons:
Place a wonton wrapper on a clean surface. Add about 1 teaspoon of filling to the center. Dip your finger in the beaten egg and moisten the edges of the wrapper. Fold into a triangle or bring all corners up to the center and pinch to seal tightly. Repeat with remaining wrappers and filling.

  • Choose Cooking Method:

    To Air Fry:

    • Preheat air fryer to 375°F.

    • Lightly spray wontons with oil and place in a single layer.

    • Air fry for 6–8 minutes, or until golden and crispy.

    To Fry:

    • Heat about 1–2 inches of oil in a deep skillet to 350°F.

    • Fry wontons in batches for 2–3 minutes per side, or until golden brown.

    • Drain on paper towels.

  • Serve:
Serve warm with ranch, sour cream, or sweet chili sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • For extra heat, leave some jalapeño seeds in or add a dash of hot sauce to the filling.

  • Can be made ahead and frozen before cooking—just fry or air fry straight from frozen.

  • Try adding a little green onion or chopped cilantro for a flavor boost.
