Ingredients

Units Scale
  • :
  • For the Apple Filling:
  • 2 cups peeled & diced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • For the Turnovers:
  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • For the Glaze (Optional):
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • :
  • Step 1: Make the Apple Filling
  • Cook the apples: In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add apples, sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch.
  • Simmer: Cook for 5-7 minutes until the apples soften and the mixture thickens. Let cool.
  • Step 2: Prepare the Pastry
  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Roll out puff pastry: Lightly flour a surface and roll out the puff pastry. Cut into 4 equal squares.
  • Fill the turnovers: Spoon 2 tablespoons of apple filling onto one side of each square.
  • Fold & seal: Fold the pastry diagonally into a triangle. Press the edges with a fork to seal.
  • Egg wash: Whisk the egg and water together, then brush over the turnovers.
  • Step 3: Bake
  • Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed up. Let cool for 5 minutes.
  • Step 4: Glaze & Serve
  • Make the glaze: Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Drizzle over warm turnovers.
  • Enjoy warm!

Notes

  • :
  • For extra crunch, sprinkle coarse sugar on top before baking.
  • Make ahead: Store unbaked turnovers in the fridge for up to 24 hours or freeze for up to 3 months.
  • Try different fillings like caramel, pecans, or berries for a twist!
