Description

This Hot Fudge Chocolate Pudding Cake is a chocolate lover’s dream! A rich, moist chocolate cake magically transforms into a warm, fudgy pudding with a luscious chocolate sauce underneath. It’s easy to make and perfect served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.

Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Cake Batter:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Fudge Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/4 cups boiling water

Instructions

  1. Preheat & Prepare:
    • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Lightly grease an 8×8-inch (or similar-sized) baking dish.
  2. Make the Cake Batter:
    • In a bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
    • Stir in milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
    • Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  3. Prepare the Fudge Sauce:
    • In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and cocoa powder.
    • Sprinkle the mixture evenly over the cake batter.
    • Slowly pour the boiling water over the top (do NOT stir).
  4. Bake the Cake:
    • Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the top looks set but the cake is still gooey underneath.
    • Remove from the oven and let it cool for about 5 minutes before serving.
  5. Serve & Enjoy:
    • Scoop the cake into bowls, making sure to get plenty of the fudgy sauce from the bottom.
    • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

  • The magic happens in the oven—the cake rises to the top while the rich fudge sauce forms underneath!
  • For extra decadence, sprinkle chocolate chips or chopped nuts on top before baking.
  • Try swapping vanilla extract for a touch of espresso powder to enhance the chocolate flavor.
