Description

This creamy and rich homemade hot chocolate is the perfect cozy drink for chilly days. Made with real cocoa powder, milk, and a touch of sweetness, it’s way better than store-bought mixes. Top it with whipped cream or marshmallows for an extra treat!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 cups whole milk (or milk of choice)
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (or to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream (optional, for extra creaminess)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (optional, enhances flavor)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional, for warmth)
  • Whipped cream or marshmallows (for topping)

Instructions

  • In a small saucepan over medium heat, warm the milk until it starts to steam (do not boil).
  • Whisk in the cocoa powder, sugar, salt, and cinnamon (if using), stirring until fully dissolved.
  • Reduce heat to low and stir in the heavy cream and vanilla extract. Simmer for 1-2 minutes.
  • Pour into a mug and top with whipped cream or marshmallows.
  • Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a dairy-free version, use almond, oat, or coconut milk.
  • Add a shot of espresso for a mocha twist.
  • For extra richness, use a mix of milk and half-and-half.
