Description

This Homemade Hamburger Helper is a quick and easy one-pot meal that’s creamy, cheesy, and packed with flavor. Made with ground beef, pasta, and a rich cheddar cheese sauce, this is a perfect weeknight dinner that the whole family will love. No preservatives, just simple, wholesome ingredients!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1 small onion, diced

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 2 cups elbow macaroni (or any short pasta)

  • 2 cups beef broth

  • 1 cup milk

  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes (optional)

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 teaspoon paprika

  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste (optional)

  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  • Cook the beef – In a large skillet or pot, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess grease if needed.

  • Sauté aromatics – Add the diced onion and garlic, cooking until soft and fragrant (about 2 minutes).

  • Add liquids & pasta – Stir in the beef broth, milk, diced tomatoes (if using), tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and spices. Add the uncooked pasta and stir to combine.

  • Simmer – Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and let simmer for about 12-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the pasta is tender.

  • Melt the cheese – Once the pasta is cooked, remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and creamy.

  • Serve – Let it sit for a couple of minutes, then serve warm!

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.

  • For extra creaminess, add ¼ cup of sour cream or cream cheese at the end.

  • If you like a little heat, sprinkle in some red pepper flakes or hot sauce.

  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat with a splash of milk to bring back the creaminess.
