Description

This rich and flavorful gravy is made from pan drippings or broth and is perfect for serving over mashed potatoes, turkey, chicken, or biscuits.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (or pan drippings)

  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour

  • 2 cups chicken, turkey, or beef broth (depending on your dish)

  • 1/2 tsp salt (adjust to taste)

  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder (optional)

  • 1/2 tsp onion powder (optional)

  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (optional, for extra depth)

Instructions

  • Melt butter (or use pan drippings) in a saucepan over medium heat.

  • Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, until the mixture turns light golden brown.

  • Slowly pour in the broth, whisking continuously to prevent lumps.

  • Add seasonings (salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce if using).

  • Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 3-5 minutes, stirring often, until thickened.

  • Remove from heat and serve warm over your favorite dishes.

Notes

  • For a thicker gravy, cook a little longer or add a cornstarch slurry (1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 1 tbsp water).

  • For a smooth texture, strain the gravy before serving.

  • To make it richer, add a splash of heavy cream or a pat of butter at the end.
