Description
This rich and flavorful gravy is made from pan drippings or broth and is perfect for serving over mashed potatoes, turkey, chicken, or biscuits.
Ingredients
-
1/4 cup unsalted butter (or pan drippings)
-
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
-
2 cups chicken, turkey, or beef broth (depending on your dish)
-
1/2 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
-
1/2 tsp black pepper
-
1/2 tsp garlic powder (optional)
-
1/2 tsp onion powder (optional)
-
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (optional, for extra depth)
Instructions
-
Melt butter (or use pan drippings) in a saucepan over medium heat.
-
Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, until the mixture turns light golden brown.
-
Slowly pour in the broth, whisking continuously to prevent lumps.
-
Add seasonings (salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce if using).
-
Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 3-5 minutes, stirring often, until thickened.
-
Remove from heat and serve warm over your favorite dishes.
Notes
-
For a thicker gravy, cook a little longer or add a cornstarch slurry (1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 1 tbsp water).
-
For a smooth texture, strain the gravy before serving.
-
To make it richer, add a splash of heavy cream or a pat of butter at the end.
