Description

These Homemade Chocolate Turtles are an irresistible combination of crunchy pecans, gooey caramel, and smooth, rich chocolate. They’re incredibly easy to make with just a few ingredients and perfect for holiday gifts, special occasions, or anytime you need a sweet treat!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • :
  • 1 1/2 cups pecan halves (toasted for extra flavor)
  • 1 cup soft caramel candies (or homemade caramel)
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream
  • 12 oz (340g) semisweet or milk chocolate, chopped (or chocolate chips)
  • 1 tsp coconut oil or butter (optional, for smooth melting)
  • Flaky sea salt (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  • :
  • Prepare a Baking Sheet: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  • Arrange the Pecans: Place small clusters of 3-4 pecan halves on the baking sheet, leaving space between them.
  • Melt the Caramel: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the caramels with heavy cream in 30-second intervals, stirring after each, until smooth. (Alternatively, use a small saucepan over low heat.)
  • Add the Caramel: Spoon about 1 teaspoon of melted caramel over each pecan cluster. Let it set for about 10 minutes.
  • Melt the Chocolate: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate with the coconut oil (if using) in 30-second intervals, stirring after each, until smooth.
  • Coat the Turtles: Spoon or drizzle melted chocolate over each caramel-covered pecan cluster, ensuring they are fully covered.
  • Garnish (Optional): Sprinkle a little flaky sea salt on top for an extra flavor boost.
  • Set and Enjoy: Let the turtles set at room temperature or refrigerate for 20-30 minutes until firm.

Notes

  • :
  • Storage: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week or in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
  • Toasting Pecans: For extra flavor, toast pecans at 350°F (175°C) for 5-7 minutes before using.
  • Caramel Alternative: You can make homemade caramel using butter, sugar, and cream if preferred.
  • Chocolate Choices: Use dark, milk, or white chocolate depending on your preference.
