Description

This Cherry Amaretto Jam is a rich and flavorful spread made with juicy cherries, a touch of lemon juice for brightness, and a splash of amaretto for a warm almond-like finish. It’s perfect for breakfast, desserts, or as a gourmet gift!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 4 cups (600g) fresh or frozen cherries, pitted and halved
  • 1 3/4 cups (350g) granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) amaretto liqueur
  • 1 packet (1.75oz / 50g) powdered pectin (or 3 tbsp)

Instructions

Prepare the Cherries

  1. If using fresh cherries, wash, pit, and halve them. If using frozen cherries, let them thaw slightly.
  2. Mash some of the cherries with a fork or potato masher to release juices, leaving some chunks for texture.

2. Cook the Jam

  1. In a large pot, combine cherries, sugar, and lemon juice. Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring occasionally.
  3. Sprinkle in the powdered pectin and stir well to combine. Boil for 2–3 minutes, stirring constantly, until the jam thickens.

3. Add the Amaretto

  1. Remove from heat and stir in the amaretto liqueur. Let the jam sit for 5 minutes to allow the flavors to blend.

4. Jar & Store

  1. Pour the hot jam into sterilized jars, leaving 1/4-inch headspace.
  2. Wipe the rims clean and seal with lids.
  3. Process in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes if canning, or store in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks.

Notes

Want a thicker jam? Simmer for 5 extra minutes or add an extra tablespoon of pectin.

Prefer a smoother jam? Blend part of the mixture before adding pectin.

Alcohol-Free Option: Replace amaretto with 1 tsp almond extract.
