Description

This easy homemade bread is soft, fluffy, and perfect for sandwiches or toast. With just a few simple ingredients, you can make fresh, warm bread right in your own kitchen!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour (or bread flour)
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F or 45°C)
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp butter (melted)
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions

  • Activate the yeast – In a small bowl, mix warm water and sugar, then sprinkle the yeast on top. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  • Mix the dough – In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and melted butter. Stir until a sticky dough forms.
  • Knead the dough – Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • First rise – Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  • Shape the loaf – Punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  • Second rise – Cover and let it rise again for about 30 minutes, until slightly puffy.
  • Bake – Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 25–30 minutes, until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  • Cool and enjoy – Let the bread cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

  • Use bread flour for a chewier texture.
  • Add honey instead of sugar for a slight sweetness.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
