- 4 cups all-purpose flour (or bread flour)
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F or 45°C)
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 2 tbsp butter (melted)
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
Instructions
- Activate the yeast – In a small bowl, mix warm water and sugar, then sprinkle the yeast on top. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Mix the dough – In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and melted butter. Stir until a sticky dough forms.
- Knead the dough – Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- First rise – Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Shape the loaf – Punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan.
- Second rise – Cover and let it rise again for about 30 minutes, until slightly puffy.
- Bake – Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 25–30 minutes, until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
- Cool and enjoy – Let the bread cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
Notes
- Use bread flour for a chewier texture.
- Add honey instead of sugar for a slight sweetness.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
