Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Steak:

  • 1 lb ribeye or sirloin steak (thinly sliced)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

For the Caramelized Onions:

  • 1 large onion (thinly sliced)
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp sugar (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp salt

For the Sandwich:

  • 4 sandwich rolls (ciabatta, hoagie, or brioche)
  • 4 slices provolone or Swiss cheese
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

Instructions

  • Prepare the Onions:

    • Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add butter and sliced onions.
    • Cook, stirring occasionally, until onions are golden brown (about 15-20 minutes).
    • Add sugar (if using) and salt. Stir and set aside.
  • Cook the Steak:

    • Heat olive oil and butter in a skillet over high heat.
    • Add steak slices, season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Sear for 2-3 minutes.
    • Stir in Worcestershire sauce and cook until steak is browned but still tender. Remove from heat.
  • Toast the Rolls:

    • Slice sandwich rolls in half and toast them in the same skillet until golden brown.
  • Assemble the Sandwich:

    • Spread mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, and garlic powder mixture on each roll.
    • Layer the cooked steak, caramelized onions, and cheese.
    • Place sandwiches under a broiler for 1-2 minutes to melt the cheese.
  • Serve & Enjoy!

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add sautéed mushrooms or roasted red peppers.
  • Swap provolone for cheddar or pepper jack for a spicier kick.
  • Serve with fries, chips, or a side salad.
