Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Cookie Cake:

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg + 1 egg yolk, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

For the Buttercream Frosting:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 12 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Food coloring (optional)

Optional Decorations:

  • Sprinkles
  • Mini chocolate chips
  • Heart-shaped candies

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a heart-shaped cookie cake pan or line a baking sheet with parchment paper. If you don’t have a heart-shaped pan, you can shape the dough into a heart on the baking sheet.
  2. Make the Cookie Dough:
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
In a large bowl, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Mix until smooth and creamy.
Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract, stirring until fully incorporated.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
    Fold in the chocolate chips.
  3. Shape & Bake:
Press the cookie dough evenly into the prepared heart-shaped pan or form a heart shape with your hands. The dough will spread slightly as it bakes.
Bake for 18–22 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and the center is set but still soft. (Do not overbake; the cookie will continue to cook slightly as it cools.)
Let the cookie cake cool completely in the pan before decorating.
  4. Prepare the Buttercream Frosting:
In a bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing well.
Add the vanilla extract, a pinch of salt, and 1 tablespoon of cream or milk. Beat until light and fluffy, adding more cream if needed for the desired consistency.
    Add food coloring if desired.
  5. Decorate:
Transfer the frosting to a piping bag fitted with a star tip or your favorite decorating tip.
Pipe decorative borders, write messages, or add fun designs.
Garnish with sprinkles, mini chocolate chips, or heart-shaped candies.
  6. Serve:
Slice into wedges like a cake and enjoy!

Notes

  • For extra flair, mix in M&Ms, white chocolate chips, or colored sprinkles into the dough.
  • If using a metal pan, start checking the cookie around 15 minutes as it may bake faster.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
