Description

This Hash Brown Casserole is a perfectly cheesy and creamy comfort food dish, just like the one from Cracker Barrel! With crispy edges and a soft, gooey center, it’s an easy, crowd-pleasing recipe for family gatherings or holiday meals.


Ingredients

  • 1 bag (30 oz) frozen hash browns (thawed)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp paprika (optional, for extra flavor)
For the Topping (Optional, for Crispy Crunch!):
  • 1 cup crushed Ritz crackers or cornflakes
  • 2 tbsp melted butter

Instructions

  • Step 1: Preheat & Prep
    1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
    2. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
    Step 2: Make the Casserole Mix
    1. In a large bowl, mix together cream of chicken soup, sour cream, melted butter, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika.
    2. Stir in shredded cheddar cheese.
    3. Fold in thawed hash browns until evenly coated.
    Step 3: Assemble the Casserole
    1. Spread the mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
    2. If using the crunchy topping, mix the crushed crackers with melted butter and sprinkle over the casserole.
    Step 4: Bake
    1. Bake uncovered for 40-45 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
    2. Let sit for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Extra cheesy? Add another ½ cup of cheese on top before baking.
  • Want a spicy kick? Add chopped jalapeños or a dash of cayenne pepper.
