Description
This hearty casserole layers seasoned ground beef with tender potatoes and a creamy, cheesy sauce. It’s a perfect comfort food that’s both filling and flavorful.
Ingredients
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 cups potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 (10.5-ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
- Optional: 1 cup frozen corn or peas
Instructions
-
Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
-
Cook Ground Beef: In a skillet over medium-high heat, sauté the ground beef until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic; cook until the onion is translucent. Drain excess fat.
-
Prepare Sauce: In a bowl, combine the condensed cream of mushroom soup, milk, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth.
-
Assemble Casserole:
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes at the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
- Spread half of the ground beef mixture over the potatoes.
- If using, sprinkle half of the frozen corn or peas over the beef.
- Pour half of the soup mixture over the layers.
- Sprinkle ¾ cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the top.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, beef, vegetables, soup mixture, and another ¾ cup of cheese.
-
Bake: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is bubbly and golden.
-
Serve: Let the casserole rest for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- For added flavor, consider seasoning the ground beef with Worcestershire sauce or adding chopped bell peppers.
- Ensure potatoes are sliced evenly to promote uniform cooking.
