Description

These Ham and Cheese Butter Swim Biscuits are soft, fluffy, and baked in a pool of melted butter for a rich and delicious flavor. Packed with bits of ham and melty cheese, they’re perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a side dish for any meal!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 ½ cups buttermilk (or 1 ½ cups milk + 1 tbsp vinegar)
  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup diced cooked ham
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • ½ tsp black pepper (optional)
  • 2 tbsp chopped chives or green onions (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C). Pour the melted butter into an 8×8-inch baking dish.
  • Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, garlic powder, and black pepper.
  • Add wet ingredients: Pour in the buttermilk and stir until just combined (don’t overmix). Fold in the diced ham, shredded cheese, and chives (if using).
  • Bake: Spread the dough evenly over the melted butter in the baking dish. Use a knife to score the dough into 9 squares before baking.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown on top and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Serve & enjoy! Let cool for a few minutes, then cut and serve warm.

Notes

Swap cheddar for Swiss or pepper jack for a different flavor.

Use leftover holiday ham for an easy, delicious way to repurpose it!

These biscuits freeze well—just reheat in the oven for a few minutes before serving.
