Description

This classic Green Bean Casserole is a holiday favorite, featuring tender green beans in a creamy mushroom sauce, topped with crispy fried onions. It’s simple, delicious, and the perfect side dish for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or any cozy meal.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 4 cups (about 2 cans) green beans, drained (or 1 lb fresh, trimmed and blanched)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce (optional, for extra flavor)
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups crispy fried onions, divided

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce (if using), and black pepper. Stir until well mixed.
  • Add the green beans and half of the crispy fried onions, stirring gently to coat everything in the sauce.
  • Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×9-inch baking dish (or similar size).
  • Bake uncovered for 25 minutes until hot and bubbly.
  • Remove from the oven and sprinkle the remaining crispy fried onions evenly over the top.
  • Return to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes, until the onions are golden brown.
  • Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • For extra creaminess, stir in ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese before baking.
  • Use fresh green beans for a brighter, crisper texture. Blanch them in boiling water for 2-3 minutes, then drain.
  • Want a homemade touch? Use sautéed mushrooms and a homemade white sauce instead of canned soup.
