Description

This fried mortadella sandwich is crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside. Layers of pan-fried mortadella and melted provolone cheese come together inside a toasted bun, creating the ultimate comfort food. Perfect for lunch, a quick dinner, or a decadent snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 slices of mortadella (thick-cut if possible)
  • 2 slices of provolone cheese
  • 1 soft sandwich roll or brioche bun, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon butter (for toasting the bun)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for frying)
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise (optional)
  • Fresh arugula or lettuce (optional, for garnish)
  • Pickles (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Fry the Mortadella:
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the mortadella slices and cook for 2–3 minutes on each side until they’re golden brown and crispy at the edges.

  2. Melt the Cheese:
Lower the heat, stack the fried mortadella slices, and place provolone cheese on top. Cover the skillet with a lid until the cheese melts (about 1–2 minutes).

  3. Toast the Bun:
Spread butter on the inside of the sandwich roll. Toast the roll in the same skillet until golden and crispy.

  4. Assemble the Sandwich:
Spread mayonnaise and Dijon mustard on the toasted bun if using. Place the fried mortadella and melted provolone on the bottom half. Add arugula and pickles if desired.

  5. Serve:
Close the sandwich with the top bun and serve hot!

Notes

  • Swap provolone for mozzarella or Swiss cheese for a different flavor.
  • Add a fried egg on top for extra richness.
  • Use spicy mustard for an extra kick.
