Ingredients
- 6 slices of mortadella (thick-cut if possible)
- 2 slices of provolone cheese
- 1 soft sandwich roll or brioche bun, sliced
- 1 tablespoon butter (for toasting the bun)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (for frying)
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
- 1 tablespoon mayonnaise (optional)
- Fresh arugula or lettuce (optional, for garnish)
- Pickles (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
-
Fry the Mortadella:
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the mortadella slices and cook for 2–3 minutes on each side until they’re golden brown and crispy at the edges. -
Melt the Cheese:
Lower the heat, stack the fried mortadella slices, and place provolone cheese on top. Cover the skillet with a lid until the cheese melts (about 1–2 minutes). -
Toast the Bun:
Spread butter on the inside of the sandwich roll. Toast the roll in the same skillet until golden and crispy. -
Assemble the Sandwich:
Spread mayonnaise and Dijon mustard on the toasted bun if using. Place the fried mortadella and melted provolone on the bottom half. Add arugula and pickles if desired. -
Serve:
Close the sandwich with the top bun and serve hot!
Notes
- Swap provolone for mozzarella or Swiss cheese for a different flavor.
- Add a fried egg on top for extra richness.
- Use spicy mustard for an extra kick.
