Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Cookies:

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup eggnog

For the Eggnog Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons eggnog
  • A pinch of ground nutmeg (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, nutmeg, cinnamon, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Cream butter and sugars: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
  4. Add wet ingredients: Beat in the egg yolks one at a time, then add the vanilla extract and eggnog. Mix until well combined.
  5. Combine wet and dry: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Scoop the dough: Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake: Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden. The centers should still be soft.
  8. Cool: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Prepare the glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and eggnog until smooth.
  10. Glaze the cookies: Drizzle the glaze over the cooled cookies and sprinkle lightly with ground nutmeg for garnish.
  11. Set and serve: Let the glaze set for about 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of ground cloves or allspice to the dough.
  • You can substitute spiced rum for part of the eggnog in the glaze for an adult twist.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days.
