Description

Egg in a Hole is a classic breakfast dish where an egg is fried in the center of a slice of bread. It’s simple, quick, and delicious! Perfect for busy mornings or a cozy weekend breakfast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 slice of bread (white, wheat, or your choice)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional toppings: grated cheese, chopped parsley, hot sauce, or avocado slices

Instructions

  • Use a round cutter or a small glass to cut a hole (about 2 inches wide) in the center of the bread.
  • Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add the butter.
  • Place the bread in the skillet and crack the egg directly into the hole.
  • Cook for about 2-3 minutes until the egg starts to set. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Flip the bread carefully using a spatula and cook for another 1-2 minutes, depending on how runny you like the yolk.
  • Toast the cut-out bread round in the skillet alongside the main piece, if desired.
  • Remove from heat and serve immediately with optional toppings.

Notes

  • Use fresh, high-quality eggs for the best taste.
  • Try using different types of bread like sourdough or brioche for a twist.
  • You can add crispy bacon, sautéed mushrooms, or a drizzle of hot honey for extra flavor.
