A classic vanilla cake that’s soft, buttery, and full of delicious vanilla flavor. Perfect for birthdays, celebrations, or just because!

- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup whole milk (or buttermilk for extra moisture)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven – Set to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch cake pans or line with parchment paper.
- Mix Dry Ingredients – In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- Cream Butter & Sugar – In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
- Add Eggs & Vanilla – Beat in eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla extract.
- Alternate Flour & Milk – Add half of the flour mixture, mix, then add half of the milk. Repeat until combined.
- Bake – Divide batter evenly between cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Cool & Serve – Let cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Frost as desired and enjoy!
Notes
- For extra moisture, substitute half the butter with sour cream or yogurt.
- Add sprinkles to the batter for a funfetti-style cake!
- Pairs well with vanilla buttercream, chocolate frosting, or fresh whipped cream.
