Description

This Easy Cheese Ham Pastry is a quick, savory treat featuring flaky puff pastry filled with melty cheese and slices of savory ham. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a tasty snack, it’s simple to make and always a crowd-pleaser!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
  • 46 slices of ham (deli-style or leftover cooked ham)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, Swiss, or Gruyère work well)
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard (optional, for added flavor)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat & Prep:
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a small bowl, whisk the egg with 1 tablespoon of water to make an egg wash.
  2. Assemble the Pastry:
Roll out the puff pastry slightly on a floured surface to smooth it out.
If using Dijon mustard, spread a thin layer over the pastry, leaving a ½-inch border around the edges.
Layer the ham slices evenly over the pastry, then sprinkle the shredded cheese on top.
    Season with black pepper.
  3. Seal & Shape:
Fold the pastry over the filling to create a rectangle or square, pressing the edges together to seal.
Use a fork to crimp the edges for a decorative touch and to keep the filling secure.
Optional: Make a few small slits on top for steam to escape.
  4. Bake:
Brush the top with the egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds or poppy seeds if desired.
Bake for 18–20 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.
  5. Cool & Serve:
Let the pastry cool for a few minutes before slicing into squares or strips. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Cheese Options: Mix in mozzarella for extra meltiness or add Parmesan for a sharp bite.
  • Add Veggies: Spinach, caramelized onions, or roasted red peppers make great additions.
  • Make-Ahead Tip: Assemble and refrigerate unbaked pastries for up to 24 hours before baking fresh.
