Description

This Easy Cheese Fondue is rich, creamy, and perfect for dipping bread, veggies, and more! Made with a blend of melty cheeses, garlic, white wine, and a touch of seasoning, this fondue is a simple yet impressive appetizer or party dish.

Ingredients

Units Scale

1 garlic clove, halved

1 cup dry white wine (such as Sauvignon Blanc)

1 tbsp lemon juice

2 cups shredded Swiss cheese (like Gruyère or Emmental)

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1 tbsp cornstarch

1/2 tsp Dijon mustard

1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

1/4 tsp black pepper

1 tbsp kirsch (optional, for traditional flavor)

For Dipping:

Cubed crusty bread (like baguette or sourdough)

Steamed or raw vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, bell peppers)

Apple slices

Cooked sausage or ham cubes

Pretzels

Instructions

  1. Prepare the pot: Rub the inside of a fondue pot or heavy saucepan with the cut side of the garlic clove. Discard the garlic.
  2. Heat the wine: Pour the white wine and lemon juice into the pot and bring to a simmer over medium heat.
  3. Melt the cheese: In a bowl, toss the shredded cheeses with cornstarch until evenly coated. Gradually add small handfuls of cheese to the pot, stirring constantly until melted and smooth.
  4. Season: Stir in Dijon mustard, nutmeg, and black pepper. If using, add the kirsch for extra depth of flavor.
  5. Serve: Keep warm over low heat or a fondue burner. Serve immediately with dippers.

Notes

  • If the fondue is too thick, add a splash of warm wine.
  • If it’s too thin, mix ½ tsp cornstarch with 1 tbsp wine, then stir it in.
  • No wine? Use low-sodium chicken broth instead.
