Scale
- 1 cup dulce de leche (store-bought or homemade)
- 1/2 cup heavy cream (or whole milk for a lighter version)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt (optional, for salted caramel flavor)
- 1 tablespoon dark rum (optional, for extra depth)
For Dipping:
- Sliced bananas
- Apple slices
- Strawberries
- Marshmallows
- Pretzels
- Pound cake cubes
- Cookies (shortbread, wafers, etc.)
Instructions
- Warm the ingredients: In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, combine dulce de leche and heavy cream. Stir continuously until smooth and heated through (about 3-5 minutes).
- Add flavor: Stir in vanilla extract, sea salt, and rum (if using). Mix well until fully combined.
- Transfer to a fondue pot: Pour into a warm fondue pot or a heatproof bowl. Keep warm over low heat or a tea light candle.
- Serve: Arrange dipping items on a platter and enjoy immediately!
Notes
- Thicker fondue? Reduce the heavy cream slightly or let it simmer for a few extra minutes.
- Make it chocolatey: Stir in 2 oz melted dark chocolate for a dulce de leche-chocolate twist.
- Storage: Store leftover fondue in the fridge for up to 5 days and reheat gently before serving.
