Description

These Christmas spiced biscuits are crunchy, aromatic, and full of holiday flavor. They’re easy to make, hold their shape beautifully, and can be decorated with icing for a festive touch.


Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup (170g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup (150g) brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) molasses or golden syrup
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups (315g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • For Decorating (Optional):
  • 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons milk or lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Sprinkles, edible glitter, or colored sugar

Instructions

  • Preheat & Prepare Dough:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Make the Biscuit Dough:
  • In a large bowl, beat butter and brown sugar until creamy.
  • Add molasses (or golden syrup), egg, and vanilla extract, mixing well.
  • In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, and salt.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until a stiff dough forms.
  • Roll & Cut:
  • Lightly flour a surface and roll out dough to about ¼ inch (5mm) thick.
  • Use festive cookie cutters (stars, trees, gingerbread men) to cut out shapes.
  • Bake the Biscuits:
  • Place biscuits on baking sheets, leaving space between them.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are golden brown.
  • Let cool on a wire rack before decorating.
  • Decorate (Optional):
  • Mix powdered sugar, milk (or lemon juice), and vanilla extract to make icing.
  • Pipe designs or drizzle over biscuits. Add sprinkles before icing sets.

Notes

  • Store biscuits in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
  • If you prefer a chewier biscuit, reduce baking time by 1-2 minutes.
  • Add orange zest for extra festive flavor!
  • For a spiced chocolate version, mix in 2 tablespoons cocoa powder.
