Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 jalapeños, finely chopped (remove seeds for less heat)
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- Oil, for frying
Instructions
- Mix the filling – In a bowl, combine cheddar cheese, mozzarella, jalapeños, cream cheese, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- Form the balls – Roll the mixture into small balls (about 1 inch in diameter). Place them on a baking sheet and freeze for 20-30 minutes until firm.
- Prepare the coating – Set up three bowls:
- One with flour.
- One with beaten eggs.
- One with panko breadcrumbs mixed with smoked paprika and onion powder.
- Coat the balls – Roll each cheese ball in flour, dip in egg, then coat with panko breadcrumbs. For an extra crispy coating, repeat the egg and breadcrumb step.
- Fry until golden – Heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry the cheese balls in batches for 2-3 minutes, until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
- Serve – Let them cool slightly and serve warm with ranch, spicy mayo, or marinara sauce!
Notes
- You can bake these at 400°F (200°C) for 15-18 minutes or air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 10-12 minutes for a healthier option.
- Try adding bacon bits for extra flavor!
- For extra crunch, use double breadcrumbs by repeating the egg and panko coating.
