Ingredients

Units Scale
  • :
  • For the Bread:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup sour cream or plain yogurt
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 cups diced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • For the Cinnamon Swirl:
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • For the Optional Glaze:
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • :
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan and line with parchment paper.
  • Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • Cream butter and sugar: In a large bowl, beat butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla, sour cream, and milk until smooth.
  • Combine: Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just combined. Fold in the diced apples.
  • Layer the batter: Pour half the batter into the loaf pan. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the batter. Add the remaining batter and top with the rest of the cinnamon sugar. Swirl gently with a knife.
  • Bake: Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. If the top browns too quickly, cover with foil during the last 15 minutes.
  • Cool & glaze: Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. If using, drizzle with the glaze once cooled.
  • Slice & enjoy!

Notes

  • :
  • For extra crunch, mix ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans into the batter.
  • Use different apples for a mix of sweet and tart flavors.
  • Storage: Keeps at room temperature for 2 days, in the fridge for up to 5 days, or frozen for up to 2 months.
