Scale
- :
- 4 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or your favorite variety)
- 1 cup (200g) brown sugar, packed
- 1/4 cup (60g) unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup (120ml) heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup (40g) chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans, or almonds, optional)
- 1/4 cup (40g) mini chocolate chips (optional)
- 1/4 cup (40g) sprinkles or crushed toffee bits (optional)
Instructions
- :
- Slice the apples into wedges or rings, removing the core and seeds. Arrange the apple slices on a serving platter or tray.
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the brown sugar, heavy cream, and salt to the saucepan. Stir continuously until the sugar dissolves and the mixture comes to a simmer.
- Reduce the heat to low and continue stirring for about 3-5 minutes, until the caramel thickens slightly.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Let the caramel cool for a couple of minutes.
- Dip each apple slice into the warm caramel, using a spoon or skewer to coat them evenly.
- If desired, roll the caramel-coated apple slices in chopped nuts, mini chocolate chips, sprinkles, or crushed toffee bits for extra texture and flavor.
- Place the caramel apple slices back on the platter and refrigerate for about 15-30 minutes to allow the caramel to set.
- Serve and enjoy your sweet and festive caramel apple slices!
Notes
- :
- If you prefer a firmer caramel, cook the caramel for a bit longer until it thickens to your liking.
- You can substitute the caramel with melted chocolate or a drizzle of peanut butter for a fun variation.
- For a fun twist, add a pinch of cinnamon or a dash of pumpkin spice to the caramel for a fall flavor.
- These caramel apple slices are best served the same day but can be stored in the fridge for up to 2 days.
