Scale
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
- Melt the butter in a microwave-safe dish, then pour it into an 8×8-inch (or 9×9-inch) baking dish.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the buttermilk to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. The batter will be sticky and thick.
- Pour the dough into the baking dish directly over the melted butter. Use a spatula to spread it evenly.
- Score the dough into 9 squares using a knife (this will make cutting easier after baking).
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
- Let cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy warm!
Notes
- If you don’t have buttermilk, mix 2 cups of milk with 2 tablespoons of lemon juice or vinegar. Let sit for 5 minutes before using.
- These biscuits are perfect with honey, jam, or sausage gravy!
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or refrigerate for up to a week.
