Description

A Bird Dog Sandwich is a Southern-inspired twist on a hot dog, featuring a crispy or grilled chicken tender nestled in a toasted hot dog bun, topped with crispy bacon, melted cheese, and drizzled with honey mustard. It’s a quick and easy meal that’s perfect for lunch or a casual dinner.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 4 hot dog buns
  • 4 crispy or grilled chicken tenders
  • 4 slices of bacon, cooked until crispy
  • 4 slices of cheddar or American cheese
  • 1/4 cup honey mustard
  • 1 tablespoon butter (for toasting buns)

Instructions

  • Prepare the chicken: If using frozen chicken tenders, cook according to package instructions. If using fresh, season and grill or fry until fully cooked.
  • Cook the bacon: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon until crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  • Toast the buns: Spread butter on the inside of each hot dog bun and toast in a skillet until golden brown.
  • Assemble the sandwich: Place a cooked chicken tender in each bun. Top with a slice of cheese, a strip of crispy bacon, and a generous drizzle of honey mustard.
  • Serve: Enjoy immediately with fries, chips, or coleslaw on the side!

Notes

  • Swap out cheddar for pepper jack if you like a little spice.
  • Add lettuce, tomato, or pickles for extra crunch and flavor.
  • Use grilled chicken tenders for a lighter version.
