Description

Better Than Anything Bars are a decadent and indulgent treat that combines layers of chocolate, caramel, and crunchy goodness into one irresistible dessert. These bars are easy to make and perfect for parties, potlucks, or satisfying your sweet tooth at home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box (15.25 oz) chocolate cake mix
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup caramel sauce (or dulce de leche)
  • 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup toffee bits (such as Heath)
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
  • Mix the base: In a large bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, melted butter, and egg until a thick dough forms. Press 2/3 of the dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  • Bake the base: Place in the oven and bake for 10 minutes, then remove.
  • Layer the caramel: Pour the sweetened condensed milk over the baked base, then drizzle the caramel sauce evenly over the top.
  • Add the toppings: Sprinkle chocolate chips, toffee bits, and pecans (if using) over the caramel layer.
  • Crumble the remaining dough: Break the remaining 1/3 of the dough into small pieces and scatter them over the top.
  • Bake again: Return to the oven and bake for 20–25 minutes, until the edges are set and slightly crispy.
  • Cool completely before slicing into bars. The caramel will set as it cools.

Notes

  • For extra chewiness, refrigerate the bars for an hour before serving.
  • Swap pecans for walnuts or leave out nuts altogether.
  • Drizzle with extra caramel before serving for even more indulgence.
