For the bars:
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon almond extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup sliced almonds (for topping)
For the glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
- Cream the butter and sugar together in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
- Mix in the egg and almond extract until well combined.
- Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Press the dough evenly into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle sliced almonds on top, gently pressing them into the dough.
- Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Remove from the oven and let cool completely.
- Make the glaze by whisking together powdered sugar, milk, and almond extract until smooth.
- Drizzle the glaze over the cooled bars, then slice into squares or rectangles.
- Let the glaze set before serving. Enjoy!
Notes
- For extra almond flavor, you can toast the sliced almonds before adding them on top.
- Swap half of the all-purpose flour for almond flour for a more intense almond taste.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days or refrigerate for a longer shelf life.
