Description

These buttery almond bars have a rich, nutty flavor with a soft, slightly chewy texture and a sweet almond glaze on top. They’re easy to make and perfect for holidays, bake sales, or as an everyday treat!

Ingredients

Units Scale

For the bars:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds (for topping)

For the glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
  • Cream the butter and sugar together in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
  • Mix in the egg and almond extract until well combined.
  • Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  • Press the dough evenly into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle sliced almonds on top, gently pressing them into the dough.
  • Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Remove from the oven and let cool completely.
  • Make the glaze by whisking together powdered sugar, milk, and almond extract until smooth.
  • Drizzle the glaze over the cooled bars, then slice into squares or rectangles.
  • Let the glaze set before serving. Enjoy!

Notes

  • For extra almond flavor, you can toast the sliced almonds before adding them on top.
  • Swap half of the all-purpose flour for almond flour for a more intense almond taste.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days or refrigerate for a longer shelf life.
