Description

A crunchy, flavorful, and healthier alternative to deep-fried okra, this air fryer version delivers all the crispiness with less oil!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 cups fresh okra, trimmed and sliced into 1/2-inch pieces
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (or almond flour for gluten-free)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 egg (or 1/4 cup buttermilk for extra crispiness)

  • Cooking spray or olive oil spray

Instructions

Preheat the Air Fryer – Set your air fryer to 400°F (200°C).

Prepare the Coating – In a bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.

Coat the Okra – In a separate bowl, beat the egg. Dip the sliced okra into the egg, then toss in the seasoned cornmeal mixture to coat evenly.

Air Fry – Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Place the coated okra in a single layer and spray the top with a little more oil.

Cook & Shake – Air fry for 10-12 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.

Serve & Enjoy – Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce, like ranch or spicy mayo!

Notes

  • For extra crispiness: Add a tablespoon of grated Parmesan to the breading.
  • Make it spicy: Add ½ teaspoon of cayenne pepper to the seasoning.

  • Dairy-free option: Use plant-based milk instead of egg for binding.
